They resided in Edmonds Washington where her father was a teacher at Seaview Elementary School and her mother was employed at the University of Washington. Robert is her elder brother. Robert, her elder brother has followed in the footsteps of his father and eventually became a sociologist. He is currently an instructor at the University of California, Davis.
